"You will always be my greatest adventure" - Up
We know that shopping for your wedding dress can feel really overwhelming. We’ve put together an 8 point plan to help you have a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
WHEN TO START
We recommend starting your wedding dress search at least 9 months to a year before your wedding. Dresses are made to order and can take 6 months to arrive into store once ordered and then there’s fitting time to add on. We don’t want to feel stressed because of a tight time frame any more than you do so planning plenty of time will keep the buying processed relaxing and stress free.
Don’t worry if your time frame is shorter than the suggested 9 months, there’s always things we can do!
You need to start your shopping with a realistic budget in mind. You don’t want to fall in love with a dress you simply can’t afford and it’s best to be honest about your situation at the start of the process. You will also need to keep in mind that alterations and accessories will be an additional cost so plan how much you have to spend in total.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENT
Booking an appointment means our attention is solely on you. You’ll have a set amount of time to browse the rails, try on your choices and chat through your options with us as you go. A weekday appointment generally allows for more time than a Saturday appointment which is worth keeping in mind.
LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMING WITH YOU
We know you want to include as many people as possible especially as you’re buying such a special dress. Our advice would be too choose the 2 or 3 people that you’re closest to and will give you an honest and constructive opinion to help narrow down your choices in a really positive way. Too many opinions can be very overwhelming and make the process of choosing just one dress almost impossible.
KEEP AN OPEN MIND
It’s really hard to appreciate what a dress might look like on a hanger. Keeping an open mind will allow you to try on a wide variety of styles and leave you confident in the decisions you’re making. Brides often buy a dress quite different to what they thought they wanted when they first walked in, let our staff with all their knowledge guide you through the process and we’re sure you’ll be happy with the result.
GIVE USEFUL FEEDBACK
As you try on gowns try to give constructive feedback about the dresses and how you feel. You won’t offend us if you don’t like a dress and we can only guide you to the dress of your dreams if you’re giving us all the information we need. Try to keep narrowing down your choices with a ranking system so you don’t end up overwhelmed by too many possibilities.
SIZE IS JUST A NUMBER
It’s easy to get hung up on the size of dress being ordered. I know, I’ve been there. In reality bridal gowns are often smaller than high street sizes and it’s better to be measured and buy a dress that's the best fit at the time of ordering. The gown will be altered to fit you perfectly once it arrives at which point it will be bespoke to your size and shape.
GO WITH YOUR INSTINCT
You need to trust yourself. You know how you feel in each dress and if you follow your gut instinct you’ll most likely know when you’ve found “the one”. It’s ok to fall in love with the first dress you try on, there aren’t any rules on how many dresses you should try on.
Try not to be swayed by other people’s opinion especially if it contradicts your own. It is after all your wedding day and you deserve to feel like a princess in the gown of your dreams.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
