"You will always be my greatest adventure" - Up
As a DJ I love prom season; the dresses, hairstyles, makeup looks, how handsome the boys look and how well they colour co-ordinate with their prom date or group of mates and most importantly the Party!
Most schools have a Prom these days and it's not just about celebrating the end of exams and stress, it's about community among class mates, new beginnings and in some cases a last chance to all be together as; because a era is about to begin; jobs, college, sixth form, apprenticeships, wherever your path takes you, you want your high school days to end with a BANG!!
That's where I come in. I have been DJing prom evenings for local schools for 8 years and each one has been different to the last, with each new set of faces come new tastes in music, new ideas and new dance moves. Music to me is a passion, every song holds a memory for the person requesting it, which is why I enjoy asking my audience for their requests. Occasionally I'm asked for a classic like Bon Jovi, sometimes even my own teenage favourites such as Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance but more often than not it's some modern medley by Drake or Tom Zanetti; so guys this is a message to you: Come over talk to me, tell me your favourite song. I can safely say nothing you request will be shunned, I have heard everything from classical to heavy metal been requested at a prom. I will play it for you and it WILL fit in and flow, I can wholeheartedly promise not to kill your vibe, your prom night will be one to remember and for all the right reasons!!
My favourite quote of all time is 'Music is not what I do, it's who I am' and I love the fact that not only do people not expect a female DJ, they do not expect one who seems to be as 'down with the kids' as they are knowledgeable about all aspects of music from genre to beats, bass and rhythm, I find this gives me a big heads up and to some degree makes it a more relaxed and enjoyable evening for the students, staff and the venue.
