Confetti is an Italian word meaning sweets and the tradition of throwing confetti originates in Italy. They believed that throwing petals or paper confetti would bestow prosperity and fertility on the happy couple.
By the 1890’s the concept of confetti had spread from Italy and across Europe and it’s around this time we hear of confetti in it’s traditional form being used at weddings in England. Before this rice was thrown at the happy couple as a symbol of fertility. Can you imagine if you got hit with rice though?
These days we generally throw paper confetti or even better real flower petal confetti. Venue’s prefer biodegradable confetti and that makes the dried flower petals absolutely perfect.
I’ll be visiting our confetti supplier this weekend and hope to be able to share with some pictures of the beautiful delphinium fields.
